Korean phrases to show, not say

After a procedure you are in no state to practise pronunciation. Tap a phrase and the Korean fills the screen — hold the phone up to the driver, pharmacist or receptionist. Open this page while you have a connection and keep the tab open; tapping a phrase needs no data.

Words on the paperwork

The Korean you will see printed on quotes, receipts and at hospital counters. Matching the characters is enough to find the right desk or the right line on a bill.

견적서	Estimate / quote	The price before treatment. Not the bill.
예약금	Deposit	Get the refund terms in writing before paying it.
환불	Refund
부가세 포함 / 부가세 별도	VAT included / VAT extra	The line that most often explains a gap between two quotes.
비급여	Non-covered	Outside national health insurance; the clinic sets the price. Most of what visitors pay for.
수술동의서	Surgical consent form	Have it explained by an interpreter before you sign.
진료비 계산서·영수증	Itemised statement of medical expenses (receipt)	The document insurers and tax offices ask for.
진료비 세부내역서	Detailed statement of charges	Line-by-line detail, issued on request.
진단서	Medical certificate (diagnosis)	Issued by the records desk, usually for a fee.
소견서	Doctor's opinion letter	Useful for your doctor at home.
의무기록 사본	Copy of medical records	Request it before you leave Korea.
제증명 / 의무기록	Certificates / medical records desk	The counter that issues the three documents above.
처방전	Prescription	Take it to a pharmacy outside the clinic.
복약안내문	Medication information sheet	Lists each medicine and how to take it.
접수 / 수납	Registration / payment	The two desks you visit at the start and end of every appointment.

외국인환자 유치 의료기관	Medical institution registered to treat foreign patients	The registration a clinic needs before it may take you as a patient.
