Dental implants in Korea: visits needed and cost range

Last updated 16 September 2026

Why implants aren't a one-trip procedure, how many visits the standard timeline actually needs, and what drives the cost gap between a single implant and a full-mouth case.

Why implants take more than one trip

A dental implant is placed in three stages that each need healing time in between: the implant post is placed in the jawbone, the bone is given time to fuse to it (osseointegration), and only then is the crown attached on top. That healing period is biological, not a scheduling choice by the clinic — it typically runs a few months, which is why implants are usually planned as two trips rather than one.

A typical two-trip timeline

  1. Trip 1: consultation, imaging (CT scan of the jaw), any extractions or bone grafting needed, implant post placement
  2. Healing period at home: typically 2–4 months, longer if bone grafting was needed
  3. Trip 2: check that osseointegration is complete, abutment and crown fitted
  4. Some clinics offer a temporary crown on trip 1 so you're not without a tooth during the wait

If bone density is insufficient where the implant needs to go, a bone graft is sometimes done first and needs its own healing time before the implant post goes in — ask at the consultation whether your case needs this, since it adds a step to the timeline.

What drives the cost

Verify before you rely on this: Dental implants for foreign patients are billed outside Korea's national health insurance. Get a written, itemised quote naming the implant brand, number of visits included, and whether grafting is anticipated, before comparing prices between clinics — a lower headline number sometimes excludes the crown or the graft.

Practical note: Clinics used to treating foreign patients will plan the healing gap around your travel calendar and tell you the earliest and latest dates trip 2 can happen — if a clinic can't give you that window at the first consultation, ask again before booking flights for trip 1.

Don't book a return trip before the clinic confirms osseointegration is progressing normally — arriving for the crown fitting only to be told the bone hasn't fused yet means paying for a third trip.

Work out the whole trip: open the total cost calculator with 5 nights and two trips filled in. That is a planning default, not a schedule — replace it with the dates your own clinic gives you.
