Facial contouring in Korea: what the consultation includes

Last updated 17 September 2026

Jaw, cheekbone and chin surgery is bone surgery under general anaesthesia. What a proper consultation covers, what the quote should list, and why this is not a one-week trip.

"Facial contouring" is a marketing umbrella for operations that cut and reposition bone: jaw angle reduction, cheekbone (zygoma) reduction and chin surgery (genioplasty), often sold together as a "V-line" package. It belongs in a different risk category from eyelid or nose surgery, and the consultation should feel like it.

What a proper consultation covers

Korea has had documented cases of 'ghost surgery', where someone other than the consulting surgeon operates once the patient is asleep. Ask directly who performs the operation, ask for it in writing, and ask whether the operating room has CCTV you can request footage from.

What the quote should list

Verify before you rely on this: Cosmetic bone surgery is priced outside national health insurance and normally carries VAT. Prices quoted online are usually for a single area. Compare quotes only after each one is itemised the same way, and ask whether the figure includes VAT.

Why this is a two-week trip at minimum

  1. Days −2 to −1: consultation, CT, blood tests. A clinic that operates the same day you land leaves no room for a test result that needs a second look
  2. Day 0: surgery under general anaesthesia, often with one night under observation
  3. Days 1–7: the heaviest swelling; a soft or liquid diet because the incisions are inside the mouth
  4. Around days 10–14: stitch removal and a check before the clinic clears you to fly
  5. Months 3–6: swelling keeps settling, and the final contour is not visible before then

Practical note: Book accommodation with a kitchen or near somewhere that sells porridge (juk) and soups — most Korean neighbourhoods have a juk restaurant, and convenience stores stock it in pouches. A week of eating through swelling is far easier when soft food is a two-minute walk away.

Work out the whole trip: open the total cost calculator with 14 nights filled in. That is a planning default, not a schedule — replace it with the dates your own clinic gives you.
