How a rhinoplasty consultation and procedure typically run in Korea, why quoted prices vary so much, and how many days you actually need to plan for.
What the first consultation covers
A rhinoplasty consultation at a Korean clinic usually starts with a 3D imaging scan of your face, a physical exam of your nasal structure (skin thickness, cartilage strength, septum shape), and a discussion of what you can and can't change given that structure. A surgeon who only shows you the result you want, without explaining what your own cartilage and skin allow, is a reason to get a second consultation elsewhere before booking.
Why quotes vary so much
Ask three clinics for a rhinoplasty quote and you can get three very different numbers, because 'rhinoplasty' covers different combinations of work:
- Bridge only (implant or your own cartilage) vs. bridge + tip work vs. full structural rhinoplasty
- Whether septal or ear cartilage grafting is included, which adds an extra harvest site and recovery
- Revision rhinoplasty (correcting a previous surgery) generally costs more and takes longer to plan
- Anaesthesia type, the surgeon's own fee tier, and whether a private room or overnight stay is bundled in
Verify before you rely on this: Cosmetic rhinoplasty in Korea is normally VAT-taxable and priced outside national health insurance for both residents and foreign patients. Don't treat any number you read online as your price — get a written quote after the in-person or video consultation that states exactly which of the items above are included.
Recovery timeline and how many days to plan
- Day of surgery: procedure itself typically takes 1–3 hours depending on complexity
- Day 1–2: splint stays on, swelling and bruising peak around the eyes
- Around day 5–7: splint and stitches usually removed at a follow-up visit — this is why you can't fly out immediately
- Weeks 2–4: most visible swelling settles enough to travel comfortably, though subtle swelling continues for months
Practical note: Clinics that handle a lot of foreign patients will schedule the splint-removal visit before you book flights, not after — if a clinic is vague about when exactly that follow-up happens, ask again before you commit to a return date, because leaving Korea before the splint comes off is not something you want to improvise.
Final nasal shape is not settled at splint removal — it continues changing for months. Don't judge results, good or bad, from photos taken in the first two weeks.
